Dr. Robert Sunshine was one of the original-founding partners of IMP, PLLC. A graduate of New York University and the University of Monterrey Institute of Health Science - School of Medicine, Dr. Sunshine successfully completed a two year General Surgery Residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, followed by four years of Urological Residency training at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. In 1985, Dr. Sunshine joined an established and well respected, three man urology practice in Bethpage, New York: Long Island Urological Associates, which is currently a division of IMP.
He received his certification from the American Board of Urology in 1987 and has been recertified in 1995 and 2004. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons and the Nassau Academy of Medicine, he was appointed a Clinical Instructor in Urology at the Weil Medical College of Cornell University in 1994.
Currently serving as the Director of the Department of Surgery at St. Joseph Hospital, Dr. Sunshine is also a member of the attending staff at the Manhasset, Plainview and Syosset Divisions of the North Shore - LIJ Health Care System, Winthrop University Medical Center, and Mercy Medical Center.
A member of numerous professional medical organizations including the American Urological Association, he is the recipient of the Physician Recognition Award of the American Medical Association. He has been included in the Castle Connolly Guide to the best doctors in the New York metropolitan area for the past ten years, and has been listed in Newsday's best doctors on Long Island edition and New York Magazine's "The Best Doctors in New York".
Dr. Sunshine serves as a consultant and member of the Board of the New York State Department of Health, Office for Professional Medical Conduct. In 1998, Dr. Sunshine was appointed Police Surgeon for the New York State Police Investigators Association and he also serves as a physician with the Nassau County Department of Health's Medical Reserve Corps.
In his free time he enjoys motor sports, and holds a competition license in open wheel (i.e.: formula) auto racing. Dr. Sunshine has served as a Race Physician for the Skip Barber Racing School, Bertil Roos Racing School, the Bridgestone Racing Academy and the Sports Car Club of America.
